Welcome to AORTA
AORTA—The Association of Oregon Rail and Transit Advocates—is a 501(c)(3) non-profit citizen advocacy group working to educate the public about the need for safe, fiscally responsible, environmentally sound transportation.
AORTA was founded in 1976, as the Oregon Association of Railway Passengers (OreARP). It has a decades-long legacy of advocating on behalf of passenger rail and public transit in Oregon, from local services in communities both large and small, on up to the intercity bus and rail services that connect these communities together. By combining our voices in a strategic manner, we have a major impact on elected officials, transit agencies, and the public understanding of rail and public transit.
AORTA works cooperatively with the national Rail Passengers Association (RPA) while maintaining its autonomy.
AORTA is actively working to restore, and even expand, passenger rail service to Eastern Oregon. AORTA is building sustainable transportation for Oregon!
